Beau Monde Dip

Beau Monde seasoning may be a bit unfamiliar to you. We've found it's a regional favorite in many parts of the South, but some other folks have never heard of it—and certainly don't know how to pronounce it. But whether you can pick up a bottle of the seasoning at your local grocery store or you have to DIY the mix yourself, this dip is something everyone can appreciate.
The Beau Monde seasoning gives this creamy, rich dip a unique flavor profile with hints of celery and onion, and a touch of sweetness. It is salty and rich, and works perfectly with your favorite chips or veggies.
Beau Monde Seasoning
In the 1950s (or possibly earlier), Spice Islands introduced a seasoning blend called Beau Monde to their product lineup. It quickly became a staple in many home cooks' recipes—and holds a special place for folks today still. But it can be hard to find, so we tasked the Southern Living Test Kitchen with creating a copycat recipe that was as close to the original we could get. We think we got fairly close.
2 Tbsp. celery seeds
2 Tbsp. granulated onion
2 Tbsp. kosher salt
1 tsp. granulated sugar
Process all ingredients in a spice grinder until finely ground and powdery, about 30 seconds. (Alternatively, pound and grind using a mortar and pestle, until finely ground and powdery.)
Beau Monde Dip
2/3 cup mayonnaise
2/3 cup sour cream
1 Tbsp. grated sweet onion (from 1 small [4 oz.] onion)
1 Tbsp. finely chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
1 1/2 tsp. Beau Monde seasoning
1/2 tsp. finely chopped fresh dill, plus more for garnish
Sea salt chips and fresh crudité
Whisk together mayonnaise, sour cream, onion, parsley, Beau Monde seasoning, and dill in a medium bowl until smooth. Cover with plastic wrap and chill until flavors meld, about 30 minutes.
Transfer to a bowl; garnish with more dill, if desired. Serve with chips and/or crudité.
