Coffee Float

Coffee Float

Presenting the ultimate treat of treats: an ice cream coffee float! If you've never made coffee floats, you need to get yourself some vanilla ice cream and try this one ASAP. What's so good about a coffee ice cream float? Well, you get the richness of coffee (with a wee bit of cocoa mix for depth), but instead of milk or creamer, you get a sweet and creamy dose of ice cream to lighten your cup and cool the coffee down. Plus, we're adding a fun cocoa and coffee ground rim just to make it a little more of a treat.

FMM: I don't think I would bother rimming the glass, but I like the idea of adding just a touch of hot cocoa to the coffee. Some recipes use a cold brewed coffee making the drink with cold coffee, rather than hot. And some add liquor for a spoked coffee float. Old fashioned floats might add some carbonated water. You could also add some dark chocolate shavings on top for garnish.

1 1/2 tablespoons hot cocoa mix, divided
1 teaspoon ground coffee, plus more for garnish
1/2 cup vanilla ice cream, or more to taste
8 ounces hot coffee

Combine ½ tablespoon hot cocoa mix and 1 teaspoon ground coffee in a shallow dish. Dip the rim of a 16-ounce glass into the ice cream, then into the cocoa and ground coffee mixture to coat the rim evenly.

Add the ice cream to the glass.

Mix the hot coffee with the remaining 1 tablespoon of hot cocoa mix, stirring until the cocoa has dissolved. Pour the coffee into the glass over the ice cream.

Sprinkle with additional ground coffee to garnish and serve immediately.
