Krusczyki (Polish Bowtie Cookies)

Krusczyki
This is a Polish Christmas cookie that is fried and dusted with sugar. The recipe was given to me by a lady named Eva who I worked with at the Texas Hot in Wellsville, NY.

12 egg yolks
1 Tbsp. melted butter
1 cup sour cream
1 shot glass of brandy
1 Tbsp. confectioner's sugar
4 - 5 cups all-purpose flour
Shortening for frying
Confectioner's sugar for dusting

In a large bowl beat together the egg yolks, melted butter, sour cream, brandy and confectioner's sugar until well mixed. Add the flour to produce a noodle-like dough.

On a floured surface, roll out dough very thin to 1/4 to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut into strips that are 3 inches long and 1 inch wide. In the center of each strip, cut a 1 inch slit, lengthwise. Pull one end of the strip through the slit to form a bowtie.

In a deep frying pan or skillet, melt shortening and heat to about 350 F. Place cookies in hot oil. Cook on one side, then the other, until lightly golden browned. Remove to a paper towel to drain. Dust cookies with powdered sugar. The powdered sugar may absorb some of the oil, so you may want to dust them a couple of times.
