Using a Pizza Stone

Pizza Stone

Use a pizza stone for baking pizzas or other type of breads. The stone heats evenly so there are no hot spots and it absorbs moisture to deliver a crisp crust. Also useful for baking pies so that the bottom crust will be done when the top is brown. Bake the pie on a cookie sheet to prevent spillovers on the stone.

To Use a Pizza Stone:

  1. Place the cold stone in the oven
  2. Preheat the stone in the oven for at least 15 minutes at 450° F.
  3. Place pizza dough on a pizza peel or cutting board dusted with corn meal to prevent sticking
  4. Add pizza toppings
  5. Carefully slide pizza onto hot stone
  6. Bake for 20 - 30 minutes until done
  7. Remove the pizza and stone from the oven, cut with a pizza wheel, and serve on the stone to keep the pizza hot.

To clean: Once the stone has cooled, remove baked-on food using spatula. Rinse stone in warm water. Do not use soap as the residue will be absorbed into the stone and may affect your food's taste. Air dry before storing the stone away.
