Simple Glaze (for cakes and desserts)
from Betty Crocker's Picture Cookbook, 1950 edition
"A shiny finish for fruit cakes - not sticky."
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/4 cup water
Combine corn syrup and water and bring just to a boil. Remove from heat. Cool to lukewarm. Pour over cold cake before or after storing.
Fruit cakes are generally decorated after storing. Dip the bottom of candied fruits in cooked white frosting or sugar water syrup and press lightly into top surface to attach them.
