Black Widow

Black Widow

This is a nice little Halloween cocktail, fruity, but not too sweet. It has a dark, ruby, almost black color and with the licorice whips makes for a somewhat sinister presentation.

3/4 oz. crème de cassis
1 oz. vodka
3/4 oz. triple sec
3/4 oz. lemon juice
3/4 oz. pomegranate (or cranberry, or cran-raspberry juice)
licorice strings

Combine the ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake, shake, shake to mix and chill. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with black licorice strings. You can chill a glass quickly by putting a few ice cubes in it, then pouring them out when making the drink.

Made with a sugared rim to look like cobwebs.
Garnish with black licorice and add a plastic
black spider to the stem of the martini glass.

Recipe #2

This recipe was called Witches Brew, but it seems closer to what is called the Black Widow, so I have placed the recipe here.

1 1⁄2 ounces raspberry vodka
1⁄2 ounce black Chambord raspberry liquor
1⁄2 ounce fresh lime juice
3 ounces cranberry juice
1⁄8 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Fill a chimney or highball glass with ice. Add vodka, chambord, lime juice and cranberry juice. Stir with cocktail stirrer or long straw (I like to use 2 long thin black ones).

Lightly sprinkle top with the cinnamon and lightly stir to form little bubbles before serving.
