Homemade Facial Cleansers
A homemade facial cleanser is a good option if your skin is very sensitive to store bought cleansers or if you're looking to save money. One of the best types of facials and cleansers are ones that contain alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) because they help dissolve the glue that holds dead skin cells together.
This helps to exfoliate dead skin cells and allow anti-aging skin care products to deeply penetrate your skin. If your skin is clogged with dead skin cells and other debris, even the most expensive and best anti aging moisturizer won't work.
AHAs are found in a number of foods including milk, sugar, lemon juice, pineapple, vinegar, blackberries, grapes, oranges, apple juice and tomatoes to name a few. An AHA type homemade facial cleanser is also helpful for oily skin because it helps clear and unclog pores and blackheads.

Apply your best moisturizer. Your skin is exfoliated and super clean and will now be able to absorb the moisturizer much better. If your skin is extremely dry or sensitive, use this scrub a few times per week. On the off days, consider using pure emu oil or olive oil and a warm damp wash cloth. Massage the oil on your face and neck and use a damp warm wash cloth to remove the oil and makeup. This works really well for eye makeup too. Then rinse off. You might not need a moisturizer after this gentle cleanser.
Oily /Acne skin homemade facial cleanser
Mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda with either lemon juice or tomato juice. Add enough juice to make a thick paste and scrub the face and neck area well.
Be sure to rinse well and apply a moisturizer formulated for oily skin only. If though your skin is oily, you want to keep it soft and hydrated which is why a specially formulated moisturizer is important.
Normal skin homemade facial cleanser.
For normal skin or to make your own facial cleanser and homemade facial scrubs - you can mix and match any type of AHA - like milk, orange juice, lemon juice, cucumber juice, pineapple juice, vinegar, and yogurt - along with an abrasive like baking soda, sugar, crushed almonds, or oatmeal...to suite your skin's current needs.
Mix the ingredients into a paste adding more or less until the consistency is a thick paste. Massage this paste over the face and neck lightly and rinse well with cool water. Make sure to follow-up with a moisturizer. You won't believe how great your skin will feel and look.
Some people may find the astringent types of facial cleansers - the ones that use citrus ingredients like lemon or tomato juice -- more appropriate during the hot summer months, and then switch to the more soothing, moisturizing cleanser during the dry colder months. That's the best part of using a homemade natural facial cleanser - you can tailor what works best for you at that time.
