Home Spa Treatments for the Eyes
These particular tips deal with reducing eye puffiness, smoothing out wrinkles, and brightening the skin around your eyes.
Tea Bag eye packs
That concentrated tea contains caffeine that is proven to reduce puffiness. Leave teabags on eyes for 10 minutes and make sure to use cool water as hot water may burn and can help dry out eyes. Use a caffeinated tea with rosehips and you have a good amount of Vit C in there too. One with green tea, chamomile, and rosehips and you have an eye tea powerhouse!
Cucumber eye packs.
We all know that Cool as a Cucumber says it all. And cucumber truly does reduce puffiness and inflammation, calming the eye area (and the rest of the skin too!). Cucumbers are able to stay cold for long periods of time outside of a refrigerator and it is this coolness that reduces puffiness (it causes blood vessels around our eyes to contract, thereby reducing swelling). Place slices of the vegetable over your eyes for 5-10 minutes.
Cocoa Butter Eye Cream.
This is a simple Cocoa Butter & Coconut Oil recipe from Herb Companion for conditioning the area around the eye. You need only two ingredients and you don't need to use preservatives because there is no hydrous, or water, component. Super rich and long-lasting.
This rich and buttery cream gives the under-eye area extra care and conditioning at night, while the skin rests and repairs itself. Cocoa butter and coconut oil traditionally have been used to treat fine lines around the eyes and mouth. They help soften and protect delicate skin. This eye cream is very rich, so use sparingly; a small amount is all you need for soft, healthy skin in the morning. Getting a good night's rest also will do wonders for your eyes and skin. Look for cocoa butter in the skin-care aisle of the grocery store or natural food store.
- 2 tablespoons grated cocoa butter
- 3 tablespoons coconut oil
Mix ingredients together in a small saucepan or container and heat gently, but do not boil. Pour into a small, clean container and allow mixture to cool completely. Apply nightly under your eyes to soothe and condition your skin.
Cooling Cucumber Eye Gel
This recipe, also from Herb Companion, is a once & done spa treatment, meaning that it won't preserve longer than a few days if kept in the fridge. But considering the ingredients, including fresh cucumber juice and aloe vera, it sounds like a great treatment!
This cool, light gel is perfect for soothing and moisturizing tired eyes. Use it in the morning under makeup or at the end of the day for a quick pick-me-up. It contains fresh cucumber juice, aloe vera gel and witch hazel, all of which soothe and tighten pores.
- 1 tablespoon aloe vera gel
- 1 teaspoon fresh cucumber juice, strained
- ¼ teaspoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon witch hazel
Mix aloe, cucumber juice and cornstarch. Heat gently in microwave or on stovetop, but do not boil: about 1 minute on high in the microwave. Remove from heat and mix in witch hazel. Stir well and allow to cool completely.
You should have a clear, jellylike cream. Spoon into a small, clean jar. Dab a small amount into the skin under your eyes, being careful not to rub or pull the delicate skin.
