Secret Recipes
This is an amazing copycat version of the famous KFC Coleslaw Recipe. It's sweet, a little tangy and fabulously creamy!
This recipe makes a very wet coleslaw. Just serve it with a slotted spoon and discard the extra liquid after all the slaw is gone. It needs to be tossed each time before you serve it so it’s nice and creamy each time.
8 cups finely chopped cabbage
1/4 cup carrot, shredded
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 tablespoons white vinegar
2 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
Cut cabbage and carrots into small pieces. In salad bowl, combine the sugar, salt, pepper, milk, mayonnaise, buttermilk, vinegar and lemon juice. Beat until smooth. Add the cabbage and carrots. Mix well. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
Serves 6 to 8.

Buttermilk: Buttermilk gives this copycat recipe its characteristic tangy flavor. No buttermilk on hand? Make a buttermilk substitute by mixing milk with a little vinegar or lemon juice. Powdered buttermilk works surprisingly well, too. It’s shelf-stable, so you can easily keep some on hand in the pantry.
Mayonnaise: Mayonnaise adds the perfect level of extra-creamy richness to this coleslaw. Note that we don’t recommend using Miracle Whip for this recipe. It’s sweeter and spicier than mayonnaise, and it will alter the dressing’s flavor profile.
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons lemon juice
4-1/2 teaspoons white vinegar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 pound finely chopped cabbage (about 8 cups)
2 medium carrots, finely chopped (about 2 cups)
3 tablespoons grated onion
In a large bowl, whisk the first 7 ingredients until combined. Add remaining ingredients; toss to coat. Refrigerate, covered, at least 2 hours and up to 3 days before serving.

“I worked for KFC for 3 years and coleslaw making was a near daily occurrence. This is the real recipe scaled down to table size. I see lot of recipes claiming to be the real thing but none are. This is the real thing. The sugar amount is not a typo. ***I updated the recipe because I left out the onion”

2 lbs coleslaw mix (cabbage and carrot mix)
2 tablespoons onions, chopped
1 cup Miracle Whip
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup salad oil
1/4 cup cider vinegar
Mix all ingredients except cabbage mix/onion.
Pour over cabbage mix. Mix well and refrigerate.
Stir a few times before serving.
Slaw best if made several hours before serving. It will get watery after several hours but that is normal. It will keep for 3 day in the fridge.
