Types of Prime Rib Sandwich

There are many ways to make a sandwich out of roasted prime rib and they all look equally delicious. Most of the recipes I found online are similar to traditional steak sandwiches; they just use prime rib instead of the traditional tenderloin, flank, sirloin, or strip steak that is used on sandwiches. Others are very inventive and use all kinds of ingredients - roasted jalapenos, roasted tomatoes, pickled onions, etc.

The French Dip

First, there is the French Dip version that is served in many restaurants. This version is usually thin sliced roasted pirme rib dipped in au jus and put on a toasted baguette or other crispy roll. Sometimes cheese is added. The sandwich is then served with au jus on the side.

Harry & Izzy’s in Indianapolis offers a Prime Rib Sandwich made of shaved prime rib on an onion ciabbata bread with white cheddar cheese, served with slammer sauce (a light horseradish sauce) and homemade au jus. In addition, you also get a side item such as French fries. This is the sandwich in the picture.

Traditional Steak Sandwich

Next, there is the version with caramelized onions. This version has many variations, but caramelized onions are always included. Sometimes mushrooms and peppers are added in addition to the onions. Some type of Horseradish Cream is usually used as a condiment, sometimes made with mayonnaise, sometimes with sour cream. Cheese and a crisp green, such as arugula or watercress, is often added.

Most of the sandwiches below use steak, as opposed to prime rib. Just quickly heat rare leftover prime rib and use instead.
