Hazel's Bar Burger (Genesee Burger)
When Mom opened the bar she made a burger that was excellent. The burger was cooked on the grill and topped with melted Cheddar cheese. It was served on a toasted and lightly buttered English muffin with fresh alfalfa sprouts. Lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise were optional. The flavor was so good, I think, because of the alfalfa sprouts and the toasted and buttered English muffin; these are the ingredients which made it unique. She named it the Genesee Burger, after the Genesee River that flowed through the town and her bar was on Genesse Street.
We made these the other day and even Brian, a big beef eater, was impressed.
Per burger:
1 hamburger patty
1 thick slice Cheddar cheese
1 English muffin
Alfalfa sprouts
Lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise, optional
Grill the burger. Once it is flipped, top with the Cheddar cheese and cover so the cheese melts. Meanwhile, toast the English muffin and lightly butter it once it has finished toasting. Place the burger on the bun and top with alfalfa sprouts. Lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise are optional.
