Oven Baked Bloomin' Onion

FMM: She makes the Bloomin' Onion the same way as the deep-fried Bloomin' Onion, but then bakes it in the oven.

Preheat your oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Pat the onion completely dry before dipping it into the wet ingredients this helps the coating adhere better for a superior crust. (or use Cowboy Kent's tip to lightly dust the onion with cornstarch. See deep-fried Bloomin' Onion recipe.)

After dipping in the wet batter, then the dry batter, repeat (double-dip) and place the coated onion onto the prepared baking sheet. Drizzle 2 tablespoons olive oil evenly over the onion. This olive oil is key for achieving that lovely golden brown color and a perfectly crispy texture. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the onion is tender and achieves a golden-brown, slightly crispy finish.

For an extra crispy finish, consider broiling the blooming onion for the last 2-3 minutes of cooking time. Watch it very carefully under the broiler to prevent burning, as it can brown quickly.

Best served while still hot.
