Rusty Nail

Rusty Nail

According to cocktail historian David Wondrich, the Rusty Nail made its first appearance in 1937 under a variety of names: B.I.F., the D & S, the Little Club No. 1. No one knows where or when "Rusty Nail" originated, but by the 1960s, the name had stuck and it wasn't long before it became a classic.

Though the modern version calls for equal parts, earlier versions were drier, calling for substantially more Scotch. This is where you'll start. David Wondrich suggests 2 ounces Scotch to 1/2 ounce Drambuie, a 4:1 ratio. Want to add a dash of Angostura in there? Trust me, it won't hurt a thing.

Drambuie is a sweet, golden coloured 40% ABV liqueur made from scotch whisky, honey, herbs and spices.

2 oz Scotch Whisky
1/2 oz Drambuie (sweet Scotch whiskey liqueur)
1 dash of Angostura bitters (optional)

Add both ingredients to a rocks glass filled with ice and stir.

OR
