Vodka and Cranberry (Cape Codder)

Cape Codder

Drink type: highball

This drink was conceived in 1945 by the Ocean Spray cranberry grower's cooperative under the name "Red Devil". The "Cape Codder" name dates from the early 1960s.

The Cape Cod is related to a number of other cocktails such as the Sea Breeze (which adds grapefruit juice along with the cranberry juice), the Bay Breeze (which adds pineapple juice), Madras (which adds orange juice), Sex on the Beach (which adds orange juice and schnapps), the Cosmopolitan (which adds triple sec and lime juice), and Rose Kennedy Cocktail (which consists of varying amounts of vodka and club soda with a splash of cranberry juice for color and taste).

Pour 1 shot of vodka over a glass filled with ice.

Fill the glass with cranberry juice and place a lemon or lime wedge on the rim.

Serve with a stir stick.

I have seen recipes for the Cape Codder that combines 2 oz. vodka, 2-3 oz. cranberry juice cocktail, 1/2 oz. lime juice, and club soda Pour vodka, cranberry juice, and lime juice into a Collins glass over ice. Stir. Top with club soda, then garnish with a lime wedge.
