Sugar Cookies
In large mixing bowl, combine and mix until creamy:
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
Add:
2 eggs
1 c. sour cream
1 tsp. vanilla
Beat until well mixed.
Add:
4 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp soda
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
Stir with a spoon until well mixed.
Chill dough.
Roll on floured board fairly thick.
Cut with cookie cutters, or to save time, merely cut into squares. If cookies are not to be frosted, before cutting sprinkle rolled out dough with sugar, lightly roll it onto dough - a raisin may be pressed into center of cookie to dress it up. Bake for about 10 min. or until lightly browned on a lightly greased sheet. This will make a soft cookie. If a crisper cookie is desired, use only 1 tsp. soda for leavening, omitting the baking powder.****
325° 8 to 10 min.
****If a butterscotch flavor is desired in the cookie, make the crisper cookie using only soda for leavening and substitute brown sugar for the white.
